The Arrival of Ganapati Muni

The Arrival of Ganapati Muni

Ganapati Muni, a great scholar and poet, came to the young sage and recognized him as Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi. This meeting was significant for both.

The Guru and disciple are one in the Self.

During the years at Virupaksha Cave, Ganapati Muni came to Arunachala. He was known as a Sanskrit scholar and poet and had been living on the Hill at different times.

Hearing that a young ascetic was staying at Virupaksha Cave, he went there to see him. He observed him for some time and began to visit again on later occasions.

Ganapati Muni asked questions related to his own pursuits and interests. These questions were put informally, without any fixed arrangement. Replies were given briefly, sometimes immediately and sometimes after a pause.

Ganapati Muni wrote down some of these replies. He also spoke about these meetings to others who came to the Hill. Through his usage, the name Ramana came into circulation among those associated with him.

After this, Ganapati Muni continued to visit Virupaksha Cave from time to time. Their meetings took place quietly, without ceremony or announcement.
