Sundaram Iyer, Ramana Maharshi's father, was a respected lawyer in Tiruchuzhi. He was known for his honesty, integrity, and devotion to duty. Though he passed away when Venkataraman was only twelve, his influence on his son's character was significant.
The values of honesty, simplicity, and integrity that Sundaram Iyer embodied were reflected in his son's life. Even after his awakening, Ramana Maharshi maintained these qualities, though they were now expressions of the Self rather than social values.
The father's early death was a significant event in the family's life, leading to their move to Dindigul. This change in circumstances, though difficult at the time, was part of the divine plan that would eventually lead Venkataraman to his awakening and to Arunachala.
