Moving to Patala Lingam

Moving to Patala Lingam

From the temple, the young sage moved to Patala Lingam, an underground shrine, where he continued his deep absorption in the Self, away from the distractions of the temple.

The Self is found in the depths of silence, not in the noise of the world.

After some time in the temple halls, he was moved to the Patala Lingam, an underground shrine within the temple precincts. The place lay below ground level and was reached by a narrow passage. Very little light entered the shrine, and it remained dark and damp throughout the day.

He remained there for long periods, seated silently. The absence of light and movement appeared to make no difference to him. He did not react to heat, cold, or discomfort, and showed no concern for the conditions of the place.

Ants and other insects were present in the shrine, and they gathered around his body. Wounds formed on his limbs, and blood and pus were seen. He did not move away or attempt to protect himself.

He continued to remain in the Patala Lingam, silent and unmoving, while those around him attended to what was necessary.
