The path of knowledge is the direct path. Self-inquiry is its essence.

Ramana Maharshi taught that the path of knowledge, or Jnana Yoga, is the direct path to Self-realization. The essence of this path is self-inquiry, which leads directly to the knowledge of the Self. This knowledge is not intellectual, but direct experience.

The path of knowledge requires discrimination between the real and the unreal. One must discriminate between the Self, which is real, and the body and mind, which are unreal. This discrimination is developed through the practice of self-inquiry.

When one practices self-inquiry with sincerity and persistence, one gradually develops the discrimination that leads to Self-realization. The path of knowledge is direct because it goes straight to the source, without the need for external aids or complex practices.
