The Path of Devotion

The Path of Devotion

Ramana Maharshi taught that the path of devotion, or Bhakti Yoga, is equally valid and leads to the same goal. Surrender is the essence of the path of devotion.

The path of devotion is as valid as the path of knowledge. Both lead to the Self.

Ramana Maharshi taught that the path of devotion, or Bhakti Yoga, is equally valid and leads to the same goal as the path of knowledge. The essence of the path of devotion is surrender - complete surrender to the Self or to God.

For those who find self-inquiry difficult, the path of devotion is an equally valid alternative. One surrenders all actions, thoughts, and desires to the Self, recognizing that everything happens according to the will of the Self. This complete surrender leads to the same realization as self-inquiry.

The path of devotion is particularly suited to those with an emotional temperament. Through love and devotion, one gradually merges with the object of devotion, which is ultimately the Self. Both paths lead to the same goal - the realization of the Self.
