The Mother's Liberation
Alagammal, Ramana Maharshi's mother, attained complete Self-realization and passed away in a state of liberation. Her samadhi became the site of Ramanasramam.
Alagammal's spiritual journey was remarkable. She came to Arunachala as a mother concerned about her son, but she left as a realized soul. Under her son's guidance, she practiced self-inquiry and meditation with great devotion and sincerity.
When her time came, she passed away in a state of complete Self-realization. Her body was interred at the foot of Arunachala, and this spot later became the site of Ramanasramam. The mother who had given birth to the body of the sage had herself realized the Self.
This event was significant not just for the family, but for all devotees. It showed that Self-realization is possible for anyone who approaches it with sincerity and devotion, regardless of their background or circumstances.
