The Practice of Surrender
Surrender means giving up the sense of doership and recognizing that everything happens according to the will of the Self. This complete surrender leads to Self-realization.
Surrender, as taught by Ramana Maharshi, means giving up the sense of doership - the idea that "I am the doer." One recognizes that all actions, thoughts, and desires arise from the Self and happen according to the will of the Self. One surrenders everything to the Self.
This surrender is not passive resignation, but active recognition of the truth. One continues to act, but without the sense of doership. One acts as an instrument of the Self, recognizing that the Self is the true doer.
Complete surrender leads to the same realization as self-inquiry. When one surrenders completely, the ego is destroyed, and the Self is revealed. Surrender and self-inquiry are two sides of the same coin, both leading to the same goal.
